Holmstrom Deflection in Front

Holmstrom shows perfect technique for deflecting a puck

Here is the breakdown

A. Position- He is positioned in front of the goalie between the goalie and the puck.  This forces the goalie to look around him to see the puck making the save much more difficult.  The stick is positioned in front of him to make sure he can deflect pucks to either side of his body.

B. Job- Not only is this players job to screen the goalie but to also make sure pucks get on net. These 2 jobs are very important when creating traffic.  There is nothing more frustrating then a puck being deflected away from the net to the corner.

C. Hand Eye- Holmstrom shows great hand eye to get his stick on the slap shot from Lidstrom.  He deflects the puck back and behind his body towards the net to allow for the scoring chance and possibly a second chance on a rebound.

This is great technique which has been practiced over time.  Come work on your deflections @ The RINK Training Centre.
