When we are shooting the extra stickhandle really takes your shooting percentage down.
When you take the extra stickhandle, this tells goalies that you are getting ready to shoot the puck. As soon as a goalie gets their feet set, they should make the initial save as that is their job.
We have to find ways to make sure the goalie doesn't set his/her feet, so we can increase our chances of scoring.
We do this by:
1) Keeping the puck in a shooting position and not adding in extra stick handles. This allows us to shoot whenever we see an opening and doesn't tell the goalie when we are going to shoot.
2) Release the Puck Quickly in all situations. The longer it takes you to shoot the puck, the more time a goalie has to get set.
Come work on all aspects of your shooting including Keeping the Puck in a Shooting Position and Quick Release Shooting @ The RINK.
