Mayers Shoots from Backhand

Mayers scores in a game vs Minnesota March 17th

Here is the breakdown

A. Find Open Ice- Notice the angle he takes to receive this pass.  He come across the ice inside of the defenseman so the pass is easier to receive.

B. Puck Protection- As he gets closer to Burns (MINN) he puts the puck to the backhand side where his body is between the checker and the puck.  This allows him to continue forward progress to the net.

C. Backhand Shot- Many players wont take this shot but it does catch the goalie off guard.  He continues to drive to the net and the goalie has to respect that he is going to pull the puck to his forehand.  With pressure coming to his forehand side, he takes a hard backhand on net, resulting in a great goal.
