Ovechkin Drives Wide

Alex Ovechkin goal in a game vs Anaheim on Feb 16th

Here is the breakdown

A) Receive Pass in Stride and on Back Hand- This is a tough skill for many players to receive this pass in full stride and control the puck on the backhand side

B) Puck Placement- Right as soon as he receives the pass he moves the puck away from the defender.  When watching Ovechkin as he controls the puck, he doesn't stick handle with this puck.  To keep control he pushes the puck with him and actually removes his stick from the puck to absorb a slash.  His puck placement makes it difficult for the defender to know his off the puck.

C) Body Position and Feet Moving- Ovechkin does a great job of keeping his body in a position where he is balanced so he can continue to keep his feet moving to get around the defender. He drives his feet while keeping control of the puck and shoots the puck while driving his feet.
