Marleau On Deflection

Marleau scores a deflection goal on May 15th

Here is the breakdown

A. Location and Timing- As Boyle moves across the line to the middle, Marleau times the play so he is in front of the net at the same time the puck arrives.  He is away from the defenders and off the crease to allow the puck to change directions.

B. Job- The job of the player in front of the net is to screen the goalie.  I like to call this 1A, but equally important is job 1B to make sure all pucks are on net.  There is nothing more frustrating for a coach and a d-man, then tipping a shot that is on net into the corner.

C. Hand Eye- This is a great example of using hand-eye co-ordination to make a great play to the net. he tracks the puck off the stick of the D-man and just gets a piece of it to make sure it creates a scoring chance. The result of this little play is a great goal.
