Here is the breakdown

A. Turnover in the Offensive Zone- No matter where a turnover can hurt your team.  This turnover happens when a player is out muscled in the slot creating a loose puck.  

B. Join the Rush- The second camera angle is a great one to see Phaneuf jump into the rush with speed.  As soon as he knows he has the Sabres players behind him he jumps into the rush to create an offensive chance.

C. Shoot the Puck- He is in a situation where his players are changing so instead of taking the Buffalo defensemen on he decides to shoot the puck.  This Slap Shot is a great shot as he is a left handed shot coming down the left wing with speed.  It is very hard for even one of the best goalies in the game when there is a defenseman there who acts as a screen. 

On a side note, the pinch at the blue line (Sabres D-Man) isn't a great one.   If he would have made a hit, this goal wouldn't have happened.
