Check out the highlight from Scott Gomez of the Canadiens -Rangers game on Feb 5.
Gomez has the canning ability to display his quickness with the puck within this clip.
Here is the breakdown:
Here is the breakdown:
A. Puck Distribution - As the low transition moves behind the net in an West to East cycle, Gomez is able to quickly identify the open space along the side wall, allowing him to send a crisp pass to the point.
B. Stickhandling Within a Confined Space - After the puck bounces off the back boards Gomez is able to move the puck from his backhand to forehand and shoot within a matter of less than a second. Before Martin Biron can pressure the puck with his glove and shift tight to the post the puck has already taken a trajectory flight to the top of the net. This ability of getting the puck this high, that quick in a confined space, is due to consistent repetition in practice.
C. High Trajectory in Tight - Releasing the puck high in tight is due to proper puck placement off the bade of the stick. Of course, every stick has different length, curvature of the blade, and flex, but what is important that in tight is that the top of the blade must shift back behind the bottom of the blade to allow the puck to have an angle directed for height. The follow through is also of importance of determining how high the puck will go. In this case it was to the highest possible part of the net - hitting the water bottle!
